The countryside outside St. Rémy has open fields bordered with bamboo. In this lovely setting is a 200 year-old farmhouse that originally was inhabited by hardworking farmers whose produce supported the owners of the elegant villa next door. Now a separate property, the farmhouse has been converted into a beautiful residence. It's on 2.5 acres of land including olive orchards.

The original section of the farmhouse has thick stone walls and exposed beams. As you enter the house to the right is a country kitchen that has been fully renovated and is very well equipped. It has exposed beams and a round table and chairs. A toilet and sink is by the entry hall.

At the back of the kitchen a door leads to a hall leading to the other part of the house. Here is a beautiful living room with a high ceiling, exposed beams and an entire wall of glass looking out on the enclosed patio. This room is very bright and light with cream-colored walls, elegant drapes and a beautiful fireplace whose chimney extends up to the ceiling. This is a wonderful room to sit in with several comfortable sofas and chairs, beautiful artwork and an elegant chandelier. A stairway leads to the mezzanine level where there is a loveseat and desk.

The main bedrooms are up the stone stairway by the entry and off the kitchen. To the left of the landing, through a slightly low arch is the blue bedroom with 2 beds in it: one double bed and one slightly smaller than double. From this room, one can see the formal garden of the villa across the wall--a pretty view. Outside the door of this bedroom is a bathroom with walk-in shower, sink and toilet. On the other side of the landing also through a slightly low arch are the other 2 bedrooms. The yellow room has 2 single beds side by side. At the end of the hall is the rose room with two single beds, also side by side. The bathroom in the hall has a stall shower, sink and toilet. There is one additional bedroom which is on the ground floor just to the left of the entry hall. This is a large bedroom with a queen bed, original tile floors and French doors that open to the front patio. This is a wonderful room best for hot weather. People in this room use the toilet and sink by the entry, but must go upstairs for a full bath. Consequently, this room is best used for parties of 6 or more.

The front yard is walled and gated from the rest of the grounds. It is a lovely area. There is a built-in barbecue for meals in the shade as well as ample seating in the sun. An old well has been capped and is a memory of years gone by. Outside the gate are the olive orchard, the garden and the pool. Next to the pool is a large pool house which can be fully enclosed with a glass wall, and a summer kitchen for cold meals only. From the pool one can enjoy the rows of lavender that line the entry drive.

From the house it is a 100m walk to a trail that goes from St. Etienne to St. Remy. This is an idyllic country house that has easy access to two very charming villages.
