Description:This property allows you to experience first hand the heritage of Provence. The owner was born in this hamlet and remembers washing clothing in the stone sink in the dining room with her great grandmother using the water that boiled in a pot on the fireplace. Her family has owned the property for over 100 years. The hamlet, a collection of small stone houses with one tall maison de maître, now houses several families. The owner, an agriculturist, cultivates the cherry trees and wheat fields surrounding. There are views of the Luberon and Vaucluse mountains nearby. All in all, an extremely beautiful setting and well located to tour the Luberon Valley and Provence. Our property is a small house with an enclosed patio and a large open terrace with a beautifully landscaped sitting area and view. The house has been charmingly renovated with some old farmhouse doors, exposed beams, white walls and occasional exposed stone for accent. The main room is the dining room with open decorative fireplace and this opens to the kitchen. The small kitchen, with slightly low ceiling due to the beams, has a window which looks across a lane in the hamlet to a pretty garden. Following the traditional farmhouse architecture, there is no living room as the French farmer spent his evening around the dining table. However, there is good seating elsewhere. The master bedroom is large and has one double bed and a single plus a sitting area with love seat and a television. Off the main entrance, providing excellent separation, is the second bedroom with a double bed and a comfortable armchair. The bathroom is off the entrance as well and has shower, sink and toilet. The village of Villars, an easy walk away, is perched on a little hill reached by a tree-lined lane. It has a jumble of stone houses and a church steeple at the top. Really a picture postcard scene. Location Information:1km E of Villars 2 restaurants, a bakery/grocery, a cafe, post office. 2km S of St. Saturnin d'Apt, good selection of small shops, post office and Roman ruins. 7km N of Apt, all facilities.Client Comments:Incredible vacation! Thank you for finding the house for us! Private even though in a hamlet. Roofed and open terrace with view of surrounding mountains. Great sunrises! Quiet surroundings--the birds, distant ringing of bells, orchard and lavendar field. Owners were wonderful people! Very clean, comfortable beds, great separation of the 2 bedrooms. We liked everything!-Marie, W., Ontario, Canada The location was wonderful for traveling around to lots of beautiful villages in Provence. The villages nearby--Villars and St. Saturnin are lovely in themselves. The house is simple--clean, quiet and tucked away in a little hamlet. The landlady was welcoming and friendly, but never intrusive. The location was great for us. Many thanks.! -Jane L., Newton, MA |
