Vaison la Romaine is a much loved town at the foot of the Dentelles mountains in the heart of the Côtes du Rhône vineyards. Its "Haute Ville", the medieval village perched on the top of a rocky crag, is a delight to explore. The main town is across the river with a lively central square that each Tuesday overflows with an outdoor market that is famous in the region. In addition, the town has significant Roman ruins and a fully intact Roman amphitheater. In summer, there is a wonderful music festival with performances in the ruins which adds to the pleasure. From Vaison one can explore the many charming villages famous for their wine, see the Roman Theater at Orange or visit France's oldest synagogue at Carpentras. There is hiking in the Dentelle mountains and biking on the many tiny roads that ribbon the open vineyards. This is a beautiful area with lots to see and do.

This pleasant villa provides a very comfortable, clean and pleasant accommodation in a pretty spot. Set on a slight rise, it has lovely views of the Haute Ville and Mont Ventoux, yet is still walking distance to the center of Vaison. Most rooms in the house face the extensive lawn, pool and view. A broad patio extends the length of the house and is reached by all ground floor rooms. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and quite pretty with travertine marble counters. There are a table and chairs for 8, and doors to the shaded patio. This patio extends out from the house to form an "L", giving a nice enclosed feeling to the property. Under its roof is a barbecue and wrought iron dining tables. The living room/dining room form one large room with a long dining table with seating for 12. The living room has comfortable seating gathered around the fireplace, and even special small chairs for children. This room has two sets of doors opening to the sunny part of the terrace with still another table for dining outdoors under the open sky. From the terrace, steps lead down to the lawn, the large pool, and the poolhouse with summer kitchen and full bathroom.

The bedrooms are in 2 separate wings. A hall at the back of the living room leads to a ground floor back bedroom with 2 twin beds and a door to the side of the patio. Across the hall is a bathroom with shower stall with rain head, sink and toilet. In this hall there is a stairway to the upstairs and 2 bedrooms. Each has a queen bed, a balcony with view, and ensuite bathroom. One has a stall shower with multi-jets and rain head, sink and toilet. The other has a triangular jacuzzi bathtub, sink and separate toilet. The other bedrooms are on the ground floor reached by a hall off the living room. Two queen bedrooms face the pool at the front and have French doors opening to the lawn. Across the hall is a bathroom with walk-in shower with rain shower head, two sinks, and a separate toilet. The third bedroom faces back and has an ensuite bathroom with bathtub, shower over, sink and toilet. There are extra beds for 2 extra people available at a charge of €105/per bed/week.

The property is gated with the owner's small house set at the entry to serve as a "gardien" and insuring the property is well-maintained. Extra cleaning or breakfasts are easy to arrange. This is a very comfortable and well-equipped house.

Client Comments:

"The property was fantastic. Although we had a busy schedule of wine touring, we did eat at the house 3 or 4 nights and loved the outdoor dining areas(two to choose from). To say that Mt. Ventoux is visible is a bit of an understatement--the scenery from the back yard is amazing."
