Description:The Vaucluse region in Provence is known for its famous Côte du Rhône wines, each one named for the village where it is produced. Vineyards extend across the open valley to the Dentelles mountains which rise dramatically from the rocky soil. This is a very beautiful setting. Sablet is one of the tiny villages dotted along the base of the mountains. It is a village rond, located on a small hill with its church at the top and houses built around it. In addition to enjoying the wines and restaurants in this area, this is a great location for touring. Just north is famous Vaison la Romaine with its medieval village, Roman ruins, lively weekly market and wonderful summer music festival. Orange with its Roman theater and concert series is to the west. Carpentras is just south and has the oldest synagogue in France located in its charming pedestrian-only town center. It's a short trip to the Roman aqueduct at the Pont du Gard as well as to Avignon and the Palais des Papes and to Isle sur la Sorgue and its river activities. This simple and pleasant accommodation is owned by a local vintner. It has open country views, yet is just a short walk to the center of the village. Located outside the gate to the owner's house, it includes use of their pretty pool. The house is attached on one side where a long-term tenant lives. A short flight of stairs leads to the shaded porch with country views. This level is one large room with living room/dining room/kitchen and has air conditioning and French doors to the porch. The kitchen is newly renovated and is all built-in. A counter separates it from the rest of the room. There is a dining room table and chairs and a comfortable sofa and armchairs. The house is furnished with Provencal family antiques giving a nice sense of history. The walls are sponge painted Provencal pastels. The effect is simple and pleasant. The bedrooms and bath are up a flight. One large room has a double bed. Another bedroom with two single beds leads to a room with a double bed. There is one bathroom with a shower stall, sink and toilet. Location Information:Edge of Sablet, bakery, grocery, cafe and simple shopping. 42km N of Avignon all facilities, high speed train.Client Comments:Serenity! Wonderful village.
