Description:

Vaison-la-Romaine is a famous market town in the Vaucluse. It is a terrific location with most of the famous Côtes du Rhône villages nearby. Beautiful agricultural land spreads to the mountains. Vaison has a lively town center, significant Roman ruins, and a medieval castle on a rocky perch overlooking the city. Patricia Wells, the famous food writer lives at Vaison and her book "At Home in Provence" has mouthwatering pictures of the market. This lovely apartment is located in the Haute Ville, the 15th century town immediately below the castle. Here with its narrow, cobblestoned streets you can feel like you've gone back in time. Yet, the facilities of the contemporary town are just a 10 minute walk away.

This newly renovated apartment is in a 16th century manor house that has been converted into 6 apartments. Ours, a corner apartment with balcony, is on the ground floor. It is located on one of the tiny streets that enters the Haute Ville. From your door you can walk into the small main square, up to the castle and visit the few craft stores. There are 2 restaurants in the Haute Ville. The main town has most facilities and it is a pleasant walk downhill across the Roman bridge and into town.

Entrance to the apartment is through a common hallway and then down 3 steps to the apartment door. The main room is a pleasant living room/dining room with a comfortable sofa and armchairs, and a dining table and chairs. It's a corner room with windows on one side, and on the other side French doors open to the balcony with its lovely view of the valley below. Many meals can be taken here and there is even a small barbecue! From the living room you enter the separate kitchen which is also a corner room with 2 windows. This is also new with pretty tile around the counter and excellent cooking facilities. There is a cafe table and 2 bar stools.

From the living room a door leads to a hallway with a bathroom with bathtub, shower over and sink. There is separate toilet. From the hall, 3 steps lead up to the bedrooms. One has a double bed and one has a single bed. Both bedrooms face the tiny street at the front of the house. Parking for the property is either in public parking areas just before entering the Haute Ville (50 m away), or there is private parking immediately behind the house.

Client Comments:

"This is a very sweet apartment. There are lovely views from the terrace looking down over the city. We took breakfast and lunch there regularly and enjoyed wine in the evening. The apartment couldn't be better equipped and is beautifully cared for. The place has dense walls which help keep it both quiet and cool. Vaison is a nice base for touring."
-Susan R., Boulder CO

"We had a wonderful stay. Vaison is a terrific town--small but vibrant and in a beautiful location. The apartment more than met our expectations. Wonderful view from the terrace. Charming and functional kitchen. Charming living and dining area. Excellent location in a quaint village."
-David L., Washington DC
"We liked just about everything! Especially the location in a medieval village. It was even better than expected. It was great walking around, especially at night. My wife spent {alot of time in the apartment when I was taking cooking classes with Patricia Wells}, and she was very happy and comfortable."
-Jeff E., Charlotte NC
