Description:This beautiful apartment is located in an historic district across from the old Hôpital St. Louis and just a block to the Canal St. Martin. The canal was built in 1825, and its iron footbridges and locks are still here with the occasional barge or pleasure boat sailing along. Just as Audrey Tatou skimmed stones here in "Amélie", our American clients can enjoy the rural feel of this stretch of waterway. This area is the "new" place to live in Paris and has been written up in Travel & Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler magazines. Artists and young creative types are enjoying the area's so-called "lazy charms" and there is a selection of new cafes, bars, boutiques and galleries here. It's a real French neighborhood that still provides excellent access to all of Paris' charms. The apartment was recently renovated by its American architect owner who took advantage of its triangular shape to create an esthetically pleasing space. The apartment is very unusual for Paris, because it is extremely spacious and bright. It has a serene, contemporary style. It is two storied with a wall of glass looking out on a small patio/garden and the building courtyard. The ground floor has a beautiful living room which enjoys the high ceiling and airy view. A private bedroom with king bed and ensuite bathroom with shower, sink and toilet is off the entry hall. The kitchen/dining area is splendid with white cupboards, black counters, dramatic lighting and a 12 foot dining room table. The entire ground floor is striking with white walls, hard wood floors and furnishings in navy blue and black. You can look up and see the open mezzanine level above. The upstairs spaces run together and are fully carpeted. One double bedroom is at one end, a study with foldout double futon sofa is at the other. These rooms are visually private, but are not fully enclosed. A large private bathroom with bathtub, shower stall, sink and toilet is between. This is a lovely property. It an ideal place to come home to after a day touring Paris. Location Information:Metro Jacques Bonsergent.Client Comments:"Open, spacious, good kitchen, nice courtyard setting; easy access to Canal St. Martin fun for our kids to see (operation of the locks); good playground close to apartment. Ground floor location was great with kids and older adults."-Claire B., San Francisco, CA. "Beautifully decorated; spacious, all the modern conveniences, great for entertaining, wonderful location, great neighborhood: market street, canal." -Jill G., Tacoma, WA. "You picked a winner with this one. It was a great apartment, perfectly equipped and in perfect working order. The apartment has a great sense of space and design. The furniture is comfortable, the lights are excellent and unusual for a rental--you can enjoy reading in every room. The office space upstairs was great for us with wired and wifi connections as well fax and printer. Very thoughtful owner! Of course, we loved the quarter. Being so near the Canal was nice with all kinds of people sitting, walking, running beside the canal and all the cute cafes, bars and restaurants nearby. Thanks for finding a place that suited us perfectly."
