Description:Azay-le-Rideau is a pretty little village on the Indre River and the site of the famous 16th century chateau.French royalty built their chateaux to take advantage of the lovely setting, and now you, too, can enjoy this charming village. One could be happy just enjoying the village and the river Indre. A short trip by bike, boat or car will take you to Saché which has its own chateau, Calder's workshop and the Balzac museum. In addition, it's just a half hour drive to Tours. The chateaux at Loches, Chambord and Blois are all within easy reach. Located on the outskirts of the village, this property has been recently converted by the Parisian owner into two charming, two-storied, attached apartments, both with dormer ceilings upstairs. Each has its own sitting out area and each varies in details, but both offer a blend of contemporary design and country charm not typically found. Exposed stone, wooden antiques, comfortable furnishings and contemporary lighting create a very attractive accommodation. The bathrooms are especially pretty. The owner lives adjacent. The ground floor has a living room with an open stone fireplace, comfortable leather sofa and arm chair, and pretty wooden country dining table. A glass wall with French doors opens to the front garden and gives a pretty view. The kitchen is small but good and has a door to the outside. There is a toilet and sink. Upstairs are two bedrooms: each with ensuite bathroom. The bedroom with queen bed has wall-to-wall carpeting and an ensuite bathtub, sink and toilet. There is nice use of stone walls, exposed beams and painted finishings. The second bedroom, which has a combination of exposed stone walls and wallpapering, has two twin beds with antique headboards, and an ensuite shower, sink and toilet. The owners were charming and helpful. The house was a lovely mix of modern bathrooms and kitchen and some old pieces of furniture--in an old stone building."-Cheryl B., Nevada City, CA. "We had a great holilday. Azay is a small, charming village with a wonderful castle to visit. Though petit, the village contains everything you need and is a central location to explore. The property was in perfect condition, comfortable with pleasant decor and included all the conveniences. The owners were exceptional. They would anticipate our needs and respect our boundaries. Always available if we needed them. Even made an appointment for me with their dentist and lent us their GPS! I highly recommend the property so that other people can be as fortunate as we were." -Ana & Ruben D., New York, NY "Nicely renovated and decorated building. Close to center of town yet quiet. Host and hostess/owners very friendly and accommodating - brought us bread, jam and coffee our first morning, made several calls for us to Auto Europe when we had trouble with our rental car, great about suggesting unusual sights to see." -Kathy G., Atherton, CA. |
